Enabling Hi-Res Zoom on your camera

Enabling Hi-Res Zoom on the Z 9

The Z 9, Z 8, Z6iii, Zf and Z50ii now offer Hi-Res Zoom during video recording. Even if you do not have a zoom lens, you can still zoom in on your subject with no loss in resolution. This can be done with any lens and can be set up by following the steps below:

Firstly go to the Video Recording Menu and then the Video File Type line and select one of the following:

ProRes 422 HQ 10-bit (MOV)

H.265 10-bit (MOV)

H.265 8-bit (MOV)

H.264 8-bit (MP4)

Next go to the Frame Size / Frame Rate line and select one of these options:

3840x2160; 30p

3840x2160; 25p

3840x2160; 24p

1920x1080; 120p

1920x1080; 100p

1920x1080; 60p

1920x1080; 50p

Then go to the bottom of the Video Recording Menu, to the ‘Hi-Res Zoom’ option and select ‘On’.

Hi-Res Zoom has now been enabled.

To further customise this function, you can go to the Custom Settings Menu, to Controls and then (f2) Custom Controls (Shooting). You can then choose which custom buttons to assign the Hi-Res Zoom functions to.

Additionally, if you go into the Video menu and then select (G8) Hi-Res Zoom Speed then this function can be customised further.

Furthermore, if you have the new Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens, then option (G10) Power/Hi-Res Collab will allow the following options:

‘Off’ – Separate the power zoom and Hi-Res Zoom functions.

‘On (Extend)’ - The power zoom is used whilst the lens is zoomed out and switched to Hi-Res Zoom when the lens is zoomed in.

‘On (Synch)’ – The power zoom and Hi-Res Zoom are performed simultaneously while the lens is zoomed in and out.
